Witch Hill

A MÖRK BORG Thanksgiving One Shot

Background

The village, once a thriving community, now lies in ruins. Corpses of the townsfolk, victims of some unknown calamity, litter the streets like discarded trash. Feathers, once soft and fluffy, now cling to the charred remains of townsfolk and the buildings that were once homes, stalls, and the stone church at the far end of town.

The air is heavy with the acrid smell of smoke and ash. The silence is oppressive, punctuated only by the sound of crackling flames, collapsing timbers, and the faint rustle of wind through the ruins. It’s as if nature itself is trying to reclaim what was lost.

What is known

This town stands out for its remarkable turkey production, renowned for its abundance and quality. Every year, this town comes together to celebrate the harvest season, with one event standing above the rest: the annual Thanksgiving turkey slaughter.

What is true

A local cult, driven by desperation, attempted to perform a ritual meant to fatten turkeys for the slaughter. However, the turkeys mutated into Turbominations, creatures of unbridled fury.

The transformation was not just physical; it was also a manifestation of the birds’ newfound malevolence. The cult’s ritual imbued them with a fierce determination to survive. The Turbominations, now driven by a primal urge for self-preservation, turned their attention to the townsfolk.

As the night of the slaughter approached, the townspeople were unaware of the horror that was about to unfold. The Turbominations stalked the streets, seeking out their human prey with an unrelenting ferocity. The town descended into chaos as the creatures wreaked havoc on its inhabitants.

Locations

The town: a series of hovels and vendor stalls lining the road, behind them are the turkey pens, fenced in yards that used to hold The Flock.

The church: this is where the cult performed the ritual and where most of the turbominations went, leaving a trail of feathers, after the slaughter.

Houses: use as many or as few as you like. Players will likely want to explore them so many can be burned husks where they quickly find a clue in the ash. Unburned homes can contain clues and/or encounters

Creatures

Turbominations: a mutated turkey, swollen with muscle and exuding fury. These feathered murder machines are often found pecking at a fresh corpse.

How to run

The party is on the road toward the town to retrieve their thanksgiving dinner. As they approach they see the smoke rising and rush forward to see the down in ruins. When play starts and they stand at the entrance to the town, a single Turbomination struts out of a house, its beak covered with blood and gore, its muscles showing through the feathers. Roll initiative.

After the fight let the players explore the town and find clues that lead them to understand what happened. Every 10 minutes of real time roll a D4 and have that many Turbominations attack the party from near by.

Each time the party explores a house either roll a d10 for clues below or provide one of your choice.

If you need to end the adventure, have The Flock break down the doors of the church and leave the building to hunt the party. They should see this happen and The Flock should see them and charge toward them.

If you want to extend the fight with The Flock have Turbominations break off of it when damage is done to it. These Turbominations join the fight.

Banishment ritual

If the players find the Nekrogobblicon and the missing pages they can perform the banishment ritual. It requires them to draw an arcane symbol on the ground and place a plate of stuffing, cranberry sauce, and mashed potatoes with gravy (leaving room for turkey) in the center. The banishment ritual will summon and weaken The Flock. All of its rolls are at -d2
